BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont led from start to finish and posted a 50-point victory over America East rival New Hampshire on Saturday at Forbush Natatorium. The Catamounts improved to 2-0 (2-0), while the Wildcats dropped their season-opening meet.

"I'm really proud of our women today, they stayed focused on themselves and their own races," said head coach
Gerry Cournoyer. "At the end, they were able to produce great results for where we are in our training."

Vermont began the morning with a convincing win in the 200 medley relay as
Courtney Gray,
Shannon Cowley,
Dani Rocheleau, and
Sarah Mantz posted a time of 1:46.26.

UNH's Liza Baykova set a pair of pool records on Saturday, winning both the 100 free (50.90) and 200 free (1:51.21). Mantz (24.31) and
Sierra Sexton (24.56) went 1-2 in the 50 free, while Kelley Lennon was second in the 200 (1:53.57) behind Baykova and swam a time of 5:09.82 for second in the 500 free.

UVM swept the top three spots in both individual backstroke events. In the 100 back, Rocheleau hit the wall first in 58.46 with Gray (59.19) and
Kira Hancock (59.19) in second and third. The 200 back was won by
Morgan Montgomery in 2:07.72. Teammates Rocheleau (2:09.28) and
Jess Gorham (2:10.60) followed in second and third.

Cowley swept the breaststroke events for the Catamounts, claiming the 100 in 1:06.30 ahead of teammate
Haley Gula (1:06.74) in second. Cowley also swam a time of 2:24.75 to win the 200 breast by four tenths of a second, while Gula took third in 2:25.65. Cowley was also second in the 200 IM later in the meet (2:12.73).

Alexy Novelli was the individual winner of the 100 butterfly in 2:07.19, while Gray (58.02) and Novelli (59.02) were a second apart behind 100 fly winner Colby Harvey of New Hampshire.
Kristina Posnick (10:50.34) and
Madeline Blumenfeld (10:50.82) hit the wall a split second apart in the 1000 free for second and third.

The Cats closed the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay as the quartet of Lennon, Gray, Sexton, and Hancock posted a time of 3:32.84.

In the diving events,
Kelsey Olsen finished third overall in the 1-meter with a score of 205.42, while
Ashley Branagan placed third in the 3-meter with 190.72. America East Diver of the Week
Madison Soucy was fourth in both diving events for UVM.

UVM and UNH have now traded home wins in each of the last four seasons.
Vermont is idle next weekend before traveling to face Siena in its first road meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. in Loudonville, New York.
