2016 NCAA Championship Recap
The World Cup returned to New England for the first time in 25 years. Waterville Valley hosted the last World Cup ski race in New England back in 1991 and it's been nearly 40 years since it was hosted in Vermont by Stratton Mountain in 1978.
In the slalom race, St. Germain finished 41st overall out of 57 racers. The junior travels to Sestriere in Italy on Friday (Dec. 2) for the next World Cup slalom and then joins Team Canada for the Nor-Am Cup in Panorama, British Columbia on December 14-18.
As a sophomore with the Catamounts, St. Germain spent the first part of the season training with Team Canada and competing in the World Cup. She made her World Cup debut in the slalom at Aspen and finished in 27th place. She was the national runner-up in the slalom race in last year's NCAA Championships and seventh in the giant slalom event. St. Germain earned First Team All-America honors for her performance in the slalom and a Second Team All-America selection in the giant slalom.
As a freshman at UVM, she registered nine top-10 finishes including one in the slalom race at the 2015 NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors.
Before Vermont, St. Germain skied with the Canadian Development Team in 2013-14 and competed in the World Junior Championships.
St. Germain was not the only Catamount to compete in a World Cup race over the weekend. Former UVM nordic skier Caitlin Patterson '12 earned points with a 28th place finish in a World Cup race in Finland.
Vermont's ski season starts January 20-21 at the St. Lawrence Carnival.
