VERMONT MEN'S LACROSSE NOTEBOOK
The Catamounts (8-7) earned the No. 3 seed in the America East Tournament with a 17-9 win over Binghamton in the regular season finale on Saturday. UVM, which is making back-to-back appearances in the America East Tournament for the first time in program history, takes on No. 2-seede and 15th ranked Stony Brook (12-3) in the semifinal round. The game is set for Thursday (May 5) at 4:30 p.m. at Tom & Casey Stadium on the campus of the University at Albany. The game will be streamed online for free via AmericaEast.tv.

KAPLAN NAMED AMERICA EAST DEFENDER OF THE WEEK

Jon Kaplan was named the America East Defender of the Week for the second straight week and fourth time this season.

Kaplan helped the Catamounts overcome a five goal deficit to post a 17-9 win over Binghamton in the regular season finale on Saturday. The win helped UVM clinch a berth to the America East Tournament. Vermont is making back-to-back appearances in the postseason tournament for the first time in program history.

Kaplan made four stops in the third quarter as the Catamounts held the Bearcats scoreless in the period. He finished the game with 13 saves and allowed just two goals after halftime.

Ian MacKay owns the sixth longest points streak in Division I lacrosse. He has registered at least one point in 44 games. The streak dates back to Feb. 22, 2014. During the streak, MacKay has totaled 108 goals and 67 assists for 165 points.

MacKay is third in America East in points per game (4.36) and fourth in the league in goals per game (2.71).

CATS IN THE NATIONAL STATS
The Catamounts rank seventh in the country in assists per game (7.93), eighth in points per game (20.2) and the UVM offense is 13th in the country at 12.27 goals per game. Vermont's man-down defense is ranks 14th in the country (.697).

Among individual players,
Ian MacKay ranks among the national leaders in four categories. He is second in the country in man-up goals (10), 11th in points per game (4.27) 18th in goals per game (2.6) and 29th in assists per game (1.67).
Cam Milligan is 23rd in the country in assists per game (1.79) and
Jon Kaplan ranks 15th in save percentage (.547).

RECORD BOOK UPDATE
A look at an updated record book shows that
Ian MacKay's single season marks in goals (39) and points (64) rank as the ninth-best in each category.

MacKay has also moved into sixth in goals (108), eighth in assists (57) and seventh in points (165) among the all-time leaders at UVM.
Cam Milligan's 63 career assists put him in sixth place among the all-time assist leaders.

Vermont's eight wins are the most under head coach
Ryan Curtis in his 10 seasons. The eight victories are also the most in the program since the 2006 team won nine games. UVM has won four league games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history, marking the most America East wins in the program.

THE MATCHUP
Stony Brook boasts the top offense in America East, averaging a league leading 13.60 goals per game, while giving up a league best 9.03 goals to opponents.

The two teams rank 1-2 in man-up goals, Stony Brook netting 31 goals with the man advantage, while the Catamounts have scored 27 times. UVM also leads the league in man down goals this season.

Vermont owns the top penalty kill percentage in the conference (.750), while Stony Brook is converting their man-up opportunities at a 56 percent clip.

SCOUTING STONY BROOK
Stony Brook wrapped up the regular season with a 16-11 win over Hartford to earn the No. 2 seed in the America East Tournament. The Seawolves went 5-1 in league play and are 12-3 overall. They enter the tournament having won three straight and seven of their final eight games. The lone loss during the stretch was a 10-9 overtime defeat to Marist.

Matt Schultz leads the team in goals (39/5th in AE in goals per game) and points (60). Teammates Alex Corpolongo (6th in AE in goals per game) and Brody Eastwood have netted 35 goals each and tallied have 42 and 41 points, respectively. Challen Rogers is the team leader in assists (36) and ranks second on the team in points (56).

Zach Oliveri is the top goalkeeper for Stony Brook. He carries a .527 save percentage and 8.89 goals against average into the Thursday's game.

As a team, the Seawolves are averaging 13 goals per game, while allowing opponents just nine goals per game.

Stony Brook owns a 16-0 record against the Catamounts in the series that dates back to 2002. The Seawolves, who were ranked 12th in the country at the time, posted a 13-10 victory on Long Island in the regular season meeting on April 3.

HEAD COACH RYAN CURTIS
The 2016 season marks Vermont head coach
Ryan Curtis' 10th year at the helm of the Catamounts. He ranks third among the all-time winningest coaches in program history (47 wins) and has led Vermont to three of the program's five America East Tournament appearances, including the first back-to-back appearance in program history (2015, 2016).

The eight wins by the Catamounts this season are the most under Curtis and he has guided UVM to four league wins, a program record, in back-to-back seasons. Curtis has the most league wins in program history (16).

Curtis became the first coach in program history to earn America East Coach of the Year honors last season. He was also selected as the head coach of the North Team at the 2015 USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game.
Â
Curtis graduated from Virginia in 2000 and was a member of the Cavaliers' national championship team in 1999. He was a two-time First Team NCAA All-American and named the NCAA Defensemen of the Year in 1999. A two-time captain at UVA, he was named to the 50th Anniversary All-ACC Team.

Curtis was also a member of the United State National Team that participated in the 2006 World Championships and won a silver medal.
