JEFFERSONVILLE, Vt. – UVM alpine skiers
Paula Moltzan and
Sandy Vietze earned second place finishes in the women's and men's giant slalom races at the St. Michael's Carnival on Friday. The races were held at Smuggler's Notch.

Moltzan landed on the podium with an overall time of 1:51.78. The sophomore was clocked at 56.11 on her first run but she was the fastest skier on her second run at 55:67.
Josefine Selvaag followed Moltzan in third place at 1:52.20.
Francesca English posted a top-five finish for UVM in fifth place with an official time of 1:52.70. Dartmouth's Foreste Peterson won the race at 1:51.64.
Vietze earned his second-place finish with a total time of 1:46.96. The senior recorded the second-fastest time on his first run at 52.44 and the fourth-fastest time on his second run at 1:46.96. Dartmouth's Tanguy Nef won the giant slalom title at 1:45.76.
Max Roeisland notched a top-five finish for the Cats in fifth place at 1:47.75.
With last weekend's combined Nordic results, the Catamounts sit atop the team standings with 725 points. Dartmouth trails in second place with 684 points and Middlebury claims third place with 577 points.
The St. Michael's Carnival wraps up with slalom races at Smuggler's Notch on Saturday (Jan. 27).
