STOWE, Vt. – The University of Vermont ski team earned a second-place team finish at the UVM Carnival on Sunday. The Catamounts recorded 932 points for the two-day event. The alpine races were hosted Stowe Mountain Resort while the Nordic races took place at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center.

Alayna Sonnesyn swept the Nordic weekend by winning the women's 5K classic race by three-tenths of a second. The senior edged Dartmouth's Katharine Ogden with an official time of 14:48.0.
Lina Sutro placed fifth overall after crossing the line at 15:19.1.
Margie Freed came in eighth place at 15:23.7.
In the men's 10K classic race,
Juri Miosga finished in seventh place at 27:18.5, one-tenth of a second ahead of teammate
Henry Harmeyer in eighth place.
Like Sonnesyn,
Paula Moltzan also swept the weekend by winning the women's slalom race. Moltzan won the event by over two seconds after recording an official time of 1:49.8.
Francesca English just missed a spot on the podium in fourth place at 1:51.54. In the men's race,
Max Roeisland placed fourth with a combined time of 1:47.51.
Vermont will compete at the Dartmouth Carnival on Friday (Feb. 9) and Saturday (Feb. 10). The alpine team will race at the Dartmouth Skiway while the Nordic team hits the trails at Oak Hill.
