STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Paula Moltzan and
Max Roeisland each earned First Team All-America honors for the Vermont alpine team on Wednesday as the 2018 NCAA Skiing Championships opened up at Steamboat Ski Resort in Colorado.
The UVM men's and women's teams both tallied the third-most points in the giant slalom and the Catamounts lead the overall team standings after Day 1 with 134 points. Host Colorado is second with 130 points, while Denver sits third with 129.

Moltzan landed on the NCAA podium for the second time in as many seasons, collecting third place in the GS with a combined time of 1:53.27. The sophomore's second run time of 58.65 was the third-fastest in the field as she moved up from ninth place.
Francesca English took ninth for Second Team All-America honors with her time of 1:53.63. English was fourth overall after the first run of the day.
Josefine Selvaag rounded out Vermont's female competitors with 16th place after skiing a time of 1:55.22 on the giant slalom course.
Roeisland led the Catamount men after finishing just off the podium in fourth place for the second straight year with a time of 1:49.93. The junior was eighth after the first run (54.89) but posted a time of 55.04 on run two to jump into fourth. Roeisland earned First Team All-America honors for the second time in his career.
Sandy Vietze was a Second Team All-American in 1:50.41 as the senior placed 10th overall with the second-best overall time on run two (54.74). Making his NCAA debut, sophomore
Patrick McConville clocked in at 1:51.69 for 25th overall.
The NCAA Skiing Championships continue on Thursday (March 8) with the first Nordic races of the championships as athletes will compete in the men's and women's classical races at Howelsen Hill.
The women's 5K race is set to begin at 11 a.m. (ET) and will be followed by the men's 10K race at 1 p.m. (ET). The championship races can be seen live for free at
