WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Vermont's
Paula Moltzan won her eighth consecutive slalom title as the 2019 EISA Carnival season began Friday morning at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, N.Y. Following the first day of skiing Vermont is in third place behind New Hampshire and Dartmouth.

After a career-best finish in the World Cup Tuesday in Austria Moltzan didn't miss a beat for the Catamounts. Her first run time of 44.66 and second run time of 49.52 were the best in the field. Her combined time of 1:34.18 was a full second ahead of the second-place finisher Emma Woodhouse from UNH.
Mille Graesdal and
Josefine Selvaag rounded out the Catamounts in a scoring position finishing 11th and 12th. Graesdal had the ninth best second run in the field at 50.78 and finished with an overall time of 1:39.29. Selvaag put together two solid runs for a time of 1:39.72. UVM's
Rachael DesRochers finished 13th overall right behind Selvaag and Graesdal.
Patrick McConville led the Catamounts on the men's side, he finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a combined time of 1:33.95. It was the first-time in McConville's career cracking the top-five at an EISA event.
Spencer Smith finished 31st overall with a combined time of 1:46.43 to earn 12 team points for the Catamounts. His first run time of 47.93 was the 12th best amongst the field.
Max Roeisland was the final Catamount to score, finishing 34th overall with a time of 1:48.65. In the first run he had the fastest time in the field at 46.12.
The 2019 St. Lawrence Carnival continues tomorrow morning in upstate New York. The men's and women's giant slalom will take place at Whiteface Mountain starting at 9 a.m. At Mt. Van Hoevenberg Nordic action will kickoff for 2019 with the women's 5k Freestyle at 10 a.m. and the men's 10k Freestyle at 11:30 a.m.
