JACKSON, N.H. – Vermont junior
Bill Harmeyer won his second career race in the Men's 20k Classic to lead the Catamounts in day one of the UNH Carnival Friday. In total Vermont earned three podium finishes in alpine and Nordic competition. After the opening day of competition Vermont is in second place with 624 points, 68 points behind Dartmouth.

After placing second in both Nordic races last weekend Harmeyer claimed today's race in a time of 54:33.8. His teammate
Matias Øvrum placed second overall coming in a little under two seconds later in a time of 54:35.7. It was Ovrum's first career podium finish in an EISA race.
Finn O'Connell was the Catamounts final scorer, placing fourth overall with a time of 54:49.1.
Ian Moore (6th, 54:49.9),
Juri Miosga (10th, 55:26.0), and
Henry Harmeyer (12th, 55:29.0) also placed in the top-12 of the field. Through three men's races on the Nordic circuit UVM has had 16 racers finish in the top-10.
After placing seventh last weekend in the 10k Classic
Anna Bizyukova earned a season-best fifth place finish with a time of 47:37.3 in the 15k Classic Friday.
Margie Freed placed 10th at 48:31.3 and
Jenny Pedersen added a 14th place finish for the Green and Gold at 48:58.2.
Paula Moltzan earned the Catamounts sole podium finish on the alpine side Friday. She finished third overall in the giant slalom with a combined time of 2:14.11. Moltzan has reached the podium in 13 of the last 15 EISA races.
Laurence St. Germain finished sixth overall with a combined time of 2:15.50. St. Germain and Moltzan were the only two Catamounts to finish both runs on a day where 28 skiers were a DNF.
Max Roeisland was top male finisher for the Catamounts in the giant slalom, placing fifth with a time of 2:10.03.
Patrick McConville finished ninth in a time of 2:11.25 while
Raphael Quenneville added a 14th place finish for Vermont coming in at 2:12.30.
The 2019 UNH Carnival concludes tomorrow morning in the White Mountains. The men's and women's slalom will take place at Cannon Mountain starting at 9 a.m. At the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation Nordic racers will face off in sprints that begin at 9:30 a.m.
