National Girls and Women in Sport Day is an annual day of observance recognizing women and girls involved in sports. This day celebrates the accomplishments of female athletes and the ongoing struggle for equality that female athletes have historically faced. February 6, 2019 marks the thirty third annual day and the theme will be "Lead Her Forward", encouraging females to reach their maximum potential and excellence.
On February 2, girls from the local community with an interest in sports and being involved in this celebration will have the opportunity to become members of the UVM athletic staff for the day. Girls between the ages of 6-12 can apply to a wide variety of positions on game day including: Public Address Announcer, Marketing Assistant, Ticket Staff, and many more! Prior to the start of the game they will have the opportunity for a complimentary lunch and question and answer session with a panel of female student-athletes.
"National Girls and Women in Sports day serves as great reminder of the power and impact women are having every day on athletic fields," said Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development and Academic Affairs SWA
Cathy Rahill. "Catamount female student-athletes strive to be the best students and athletes they can be whether it be in an honors college classroom, competing in a world cup race or volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club. We all must continue to support female athletes and steadfastly work to dismantle barriers to achieve equity."
