Lina Sutro earned first-place finishes leading Vermont on day one of the EISA Championships at the Bates Carnival Friday. Following the first day of competition the Catamounts hold a narrow one-point edge over Dartmouth, 477-476.

Day One Results
The Catamounts scored their most points on the day in the women's giant slalom with three Vermonters finishing in the top-five. In finishing with a combined time of 2:35.98 Graesdal had the second fastest first run and the fastest second run time. After the best FIS World Cup and World Championship performances of her career last week
Laurence St. Germain finished third overall with a two-run time of 2:38.45. The final Catamount to score was
Francesca English, who placed fifth overall with a time of 2:38.99.
Sutro won her sixth individual title of the EISA campaign with a time of 13:02.0 in the women's 5k Skate. She finished 2.9 seconds ahead of Dartmouth's Lydia Blanchet. It was Sutro's eighth podium appearance of the season. Next for the Catamounts was
Margie Freed, who came in with a time of 13:38.7 to place fifth overall. The Catamounts final scorer was
Anna Bizyukova who placed seventh overall in a time of 13:40.6.
Bill Harmeyer also made his eighth podium appearance in earning his fourth win of the season. Harmeyer finished 22 seconds ahead of his nearest competition with a time of 23:40.5. Next for the Catamounts was
Karl Schulz, who came in with a time of 24:24.9 to place fifth overall. Rounding out the Catamount scorers was
Ben Ogden who finished ninth overall in a time of 24:36.1.
Patrick McConville was the top male finisher for the Catamounts in the men's giant slalom, placing ninth overall with a two-run time of 2:37.37. His Vermont teammate
David Frisk finished right behind McConville in 10th place just .31 seconds later. Rounding out the Catamount scorers was
Spencer Smith, who came in 12th overall in 2:37.98.
The EISA Championships wrap up tomorrow morning in Maine. The men's and women's slalom will take place at Sunday River starting at 9:15 a.m. Nordic action will wrap with the classical races beginning 10 a.m. on Black Mountain.
2019 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE BACK IN STOWE
This March the University of Vermont will be hosting the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2011. Competition will run Wednesday, March 6 through Saturday, March 9.
