HANOVER, N.H. –
Lina Sutro won the women's 10k Skate Friday as Vermont claimed three of the six podium places on day one of the Dartmouth Carnival in Hanover Friday. After the opening day of competition Vermont is in first place with 248 points, 28 points ahead of second-place Dartmouth.

Sutro won her fourth EISA race of the season with a time of 30:04.6 in the women's 10k Skate. She finished 15 seconds ahead of Dartmouth's Katharine Ogden. Competing at their home course the Big Green secured second, third and fourth Friday.
UVM's
Margie Freed finished fifth overall in a time of 31:19.0.
Lizzie Larkins was the Catamounts final scorer of the morning, placing 14th overall in a time of 32:12.2. Vermont's Mackenzie Rizio and
Anna Bizyukova actually tied for 16th place, with identical times of 32:20.1.
In the men's 15k Skate Colby College's Zane Fields became the first non-Vermont skier this EISA season to win a race on the men's Nordic side. He earned his first career EISA win with a time of 43:32.5. UVM's
Karl Schulz was second overall in a time of 45:02.2 and
Finn O'Connell earned the final podium spot with a time of 45:08.2.
Henry Harmeyer (6th, 45:40.9),
Ben Ogden (7th, 45:46.9) and
Ian Moore (8th, 45:47.0) also earned top-10 finishes for the Catamounts.
The men's and women's giant slalom races for today were postponed. The races will be made up on Sunday, February 17 following the Middlebury Carnival that weekend.
The 109th Dartmouth Carnival continues tomorrow morning in the Granite State. The men's and women's slalom will take place at the Dartmouth Skiway starting at 9 a.m. Nordic action for the Dartmouth Carnival will conclude at 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. as the women's and men's teams compete in the 3x5k Classic Relay at the Dartmouth XC Ski Center at Oak Hill.
