LAKE PLACID, N.Y. –
Anna Bizyukova and
Ben Ogden picked up wins on Friday as a part of five podium finishes for the Catamounts on the opening day of the Williams Carnival. After the first day of competition Vermont is in second place with 400 points, 50 behind Middlebury.

The men's Nordic squad swept the podium for the second time this season.
Ben Ogden led the way earning his fifth win of the season with a time of 23:22.5 in the 10k Classic.
Bill Harmeyer finished second overall with a time of 24:11.6. UVM's final scorer was
Karl Schulz who picked up his fourth podium of the season with a time of 24:28.4. The Catamounts earned 141 team points, the most possible.
The women's Nordic team also had a strong showing Friday morning.
Anna Bizyukova earned her first win of the season with a time of 27:44.0. She was the race leader at each 2.5k interval.
Margie Freed was the Catamounts next scorer placing sixth overall with a time of 28:46.7.
Waverly Gebhardt was UVM's final scorer finishing in a time of 28:59.2 good for tenth place. The women's team earned 118 points finishing just behind Middlebury who earned 121.
Lindstol claimed his seventh podium of the season finishing second in the men's giant slalom with a two-run time of 1:42.96. He had the fastest second run in the field at 50.48.
Raphael Quenneville was the Catamounts next scorer, placing 23rd overall with a time of 1:45.03.
David Frisk earned 18 points for Vermont as the 28th place finisher. He had a two-run time of 1:45.95. The men's team earned 84 points for the Catamounts.
Rachael DesRochers was the top finisher for the women's alpine squad. She placed eighth overall with a combined run time of 1:48:09.
Caroline Jones earned 13 points for Vermont finishing in 34th place with a time of 1:53.29.
Hannah Hunsaker was the Catamounts final scorer she placed 39th overall in a time of 1:54.24.
Josefine Selvaag and
Marina Vilanova did not finish on their second runs. The women's team earned 57 points on the opening day.
The 2020 Williams Carnival will conclude tomorrow afternoon. The men's and women's slalom will take place at Jiminy Peak starting at 9:15 a.m. At Mt. Van Hoevenberg the men and women will compete in the 3x5k relays beginning with the men's race at 9:30 a.m.
