Josefine Selvaag won her first career EISA race in the giant slalom and
Ben Ogden won the men's 10k freestyle as the Catamounts finished second in the Bates Carnival with a total of 848 points. Middlebury edged Vermont by two points to claim their first carnival win of the season.

Selvaag's best career finish was keyed by a huge first run. Her time of 1:05.19 was .49 seconds faster than anyone in the field. She finished in a combined time of 2:18.59, .29 seconds ahead of Dartmouth's Abi Jewett to earn 50 points for the Catamounts. Rachel Desrochers placed 13th for the Catamounts with a combined run time of 2:21.80.
Caroline Jones was Vermont's final scorer, she finished 27th. The women earned 80 points on the day.
Ogden earned his fourth win of the season in the men's 10k Freestyle with a time of 23:02.2. He finished 7.3 seconds ahead of Middlebury's Peter Wolter.
Karl Schulz finished third for the Catamounts in a time of 23:17.2 earning his fourth podium of the season.
Bill Harmeyer was the Catamounts final scorer placing fourth overall finishing 17.2 seconds behind Schulz. The men's Nordic team earned 135 points today, 39 more than anyone else in the field.
On the women's side
Margie Freed was the top-finisher for the Catamounts earning her fifth straight top-five finish with a time of 13:14.3 for third in the 5k Freestyle.
Lina Sutro was the next Catamount scorer in eighth place with a time of 13:20.2.
Anna Bizyukova was Vermont's final scorer on the day, placing 12th overall with a mark of 13:36.9. The trio earned 105 team points for UVM.
Joachim Jagge Lindstol was the men's top finisher in the giant slalom, placing sixth overall with a combined run time of 2:15.19.
David Frisk placed 19th overall with a two-run time of 2:17.40. UVM's final scorer was
Spencer Smith. He placed 43rd in the field with a two-run time of 2:23.12. The men's alpine squad earned 66 team points.
The EISA circuit continues next weekend at the Williams Carnival on Feb. 14-15 with alpine action at Jiminy Peak and the Nordic competition at Prospect Mountain. Friday's races are the giant slalom, and the 10k Classic.
