SKIING NOTEBOOK
After an abbreviated 2021 campaign with just five EISA teams in action the full EISA circuit returns to action tomorrow morning in Maine at the 2022 Colby Carnival. The alpine competition will be at Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley while the Nordic teams will compete at Quarry Road in Waterville.

Please note that due to the forecast the originally scheduled Nordic competition will be flipped. The 20k freestyle will be contested Friday and the 5k classic will be on Saturday.

RETURNING DEPTH FOR THE CATAMOUNTS
With the added year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Catamounts 2022 roster is stacked with returning talent. UVM returns five All-Americans from the 2021 NCAA Championships.
Mathias Tefre was the National Champion in the slalom and he was joined by
Justine Clément (slalom) and
Francesca English (GS) as First Team All-Americans.
Anna Bizyukova (classic) and
David Frisk (slalom) were Second Team All-Americans along with Tefre (GS) and English (slalom).

BACK FOR MORE IN EISA ACTION
During the abbreviated EISA campaign in 2021 the Catamounts were dominant. They were the overall winner of the EISA championship and finished first in men's, women's, alpine and Nordic. UVM won all six carnivals they had a full team at. At the 2021 NCAA Championships hosted by UNH they finished sixth.

LAST TIME AT THE COLBY CARNIVAL
The last Colby Carnival was contested January 31-February 1, 2020. The Catamounts claimed the carnival with 899 points. UVM had the most points in the field in the men's 10k skate, women's 5k skate, men's 15k classic and the men's slalom.
Ben Ogden led the way for the men's Nordic team claiming both wins for the Catamounts.
Mathias Tefre won his first career EISA race in the slalom while
Joachim Jagge Lindstol finished second in the GS and the slalom.

SWEET AND McCOLGAN QUALIFY FOR WORLD JUNIORS WITH STRONG SHOWING AT NATIONALS
Finn Sweet and
Annie McColgan highlighted a strong week for the Catamounts at the US Nationals January 2-7 at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Utah. They both qualified to represent the US at the 2022 World Junior Championships in Norway. McColgan finished sixth in the Junior Free Sprint Heats with a final time of 4:15.60. She was also fifth in the 7.5k Freestyle with a time of 20:47.5. Sweet also placed fifth in the 10k Freestyle in a time of 24:51.2.
Greg Burt also had a strong week for UVM and is currently an alternate for the U23 World Championships.
