Joachim Jagge Lindstol,
Ben Ogden and
Marina Vilanova earned victories for the Catamounts on day one of the Colby Carnival Friday. The Catamounts are in first place after the opening day of competition with 412 points. Middlebury sits in second place just three points behind Vermont.

At Quarry Road, the Catamounts men's Nordic team led the way for Vermont. Ogden led a UVM sweep of the top-four spots in the 20k Freestyle. Ogden was the only finisher under 49 minutes with a time of 48:41.6. Matias Ovrum came in second with a time of 49.10.2.
Jacob Nystedt was UVM's final scorer of the day coming in two seconds behind Ovrum.
Greg Burt (49.22.4) placed fourth for the Catamounts and
Bjorn Westervelt was eighth (51:04.0).
Gebhardt claimed the first women's race of the season with a time of 56.47.6 in the 20k Freestyle. She finished .4 seconds faster than Dartmouth's Rena Schwartz.
Libby Tuttle was the Catamounts next finisher, she placed tenth with a time of 57:59.7.
Annie McColgan was UVM's final scorer of the morning coming in 13th with a time of 58:38.9.
Lindstol earned the second EISA win of his career Friday with a two-run time of 1:40.28 in the giant slalom. He was 1.17 seconds faster than anyone else in the field. His first and second run time were the fastest in the field.
Diego Holscher was Vermont's final scorer of the day, placing 19th overall with a combined time of 1:43.97. With difficult conditions Friday four Catamounts were a DNF, one in the first run and three in the second run. In total 25 men's racers were unable to finish.
Vilanova won the third GS of her EISA career with a combined time of 1:46.2. She finished .86 seconds faster than Middlebury's Lucia Bailey. Vilanova's second run was fastest in the field with a time of 53.49 to claim the win after being sixth after run one.
Caroline Jones was UVM's second scorer of the day, placing 19th with a two-run time of 1:51.36. Her teammate
Stephanie Lebby was .03 seconds behind her for 20th and UVM's final scoring position. 30 racers were a DNF in the women's race including two Catamounts.
The Nordic races of the Colby Carnival will conclude tomorrow morning with the men's and women's 5k Classic. The women's race is scheduled for 10 a.m. and the men's race will begin at noon. Saturday's slalom races from Sugarloaf have been postponed until Sunday due to the forecast winds in the area.
