NEWARK, N.J. – The Catamounts won four individual events and two relays on the opening day of the NJIT Invitational Friday at the NJIT Wellness and Events Center. Vermont sits in first place with 682 points putting them ahead of UMBC who has 423, while St. Francis trails just behind with 335.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts started the night off fast taking home the 200 freestyle relay. The combination of Jackie House, Cailin Campbell, Autumn Bullinger and Mina Poppas finished in a time of 1:38.61.
- Ella Church dominated the 1000 free by a full five and a half seconds leading from start to finish. Church finished in 10:31.91 while UMBC senior Mariajose Lopez finished second in 10:37.55. Emily Rocco finished in third with a time of 10:49.07.
- Jackie House finished first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:53.65 just outpacing fellow Catamount Mina Poppas who placed second finishing in 1:53.86. Ella Church made it a sweep of the top three for Vermont finishing in 1:56.31. Poppas also finished second in the 50 free with a time of 24.76 while House placed third finishing in 24.80.
- Hally Laney took home the 200 butterfly finishing almost five seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer, Miranda Schuman, in a time of 2:06.50. Schuman placed second in a time of 2:11.25.
- Natalie Schlemmer claimed another victory on the season placing first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:34.13, clearing the field by a full four seconds. Kara Campbell finished in third with a time of 4:39.24.
- Vermont completed the day with a one-two finish in the 400-medley relay. Autumn Bullinger, Natalie Schlemmer, Hally Laney and Jackie House placed first finishing in a time of 3:58.64. Fellow Catamounts Emma Wainwright, Lilly Acker, Abby Miller and Mina Poppas finished second with a time of 4:01.59.
WHO'S NEXT
Day two of the NJIT Invitational will begin Saturday morning with the three meter diving at 9:30 a.m. in the NJIT Wellness and Events Center. Along with the three meter dive, teams will also be competing in the one meter dive tomorrow. Swimming action will conclude with the 200-medley relay, 100 and 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 breaststroke and the 500 freestyle relay. Streaming coverage will resume at 11 a.m. tomorrow on ESPN+.
