MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
The Catamounts continue the 2022-23 regular season this weekend as they travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to face Colgate in a two-game non-conference series. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday. SCORING IN BUNCHES SATURDAY
In their last game UVM put six past Holy Cross in a dominant 6-0 win at Gutterson Fieldhouse. It was the Catamounts first time scoring six goals since January 20, 2018 a 6-3 win over UMass Lowell.

RICHARDS OPENS HIS SCORING ACCOUNT
First year forward
Jens Richards scored his first career goal Saturday night against the Crusaders. He is the first newcomer this season to register his first collegiate goal in the green and gold.
SHUTOUT AND SHOT SUPPRESSION
Junior goaltender
Gabe Carriere earned his first shutout of the season Saturday making 12 saves for Vermont. The 12 shots against were a new low for an opponent in the
Todd Woodcroft era. The Catamounts skaters also blocked nine shots for Vermont.
WOODCROFT CONNECTION TO COLGATE
Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft's brother Craig played at Colgate from 1988-91. He's tied for tenth all-time at Colgate with 168 points. He is also sixth all-time with 250 penalty minutes. He was the 1990 ECAC Tournament MVP. In his time with the Raiders Craig was 4-3-1 against the Catamounts. Following the 1990-91 campaign he was an All-American Honorable Mention.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate is 2-4-0 this season after splitting a weekend series at Merrimack last weekend. The Raiders fell 5-0 on Friday but rebounded with a 5-3 win in game two. Over the last four seasons Colgate is 5-5-2 against Hockey East opponents.
Matt Verboon, Alex Young and Alex DiPaolo are tied for the team lead in scoring with two goals apiece. Verboon is tops on the team with six points. The senior from Switzerland had a goal and an assist against the Catamounts last season.
Junior goaltender Carter Gylander has started all six games for the Raiders. He has maintained a 2.67 goals-against average and .914 save percentage. Gylander was a teammate of UVM alternate captain
Will Zapernick with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL from 2017-20.
SERIES HISTORY
Colgate leads the overall series with Vermont 39-27-5, the teams were regular opponents in UVM's time in the ECAC. The teams first met on November 27, 1971 a 7-2 win for Vermont. Last season the Raiders swept a two-game set at Gutterson Fieldhouse with a 5-3 and 2-1 win.
Robbie Stucker led the Catamounts in scoring that weekend with a goal and an assist.
This will be the Catamounts first game in Hamilton since January 11, 2014. The Catamounts fell 3-2 in that contest with goals from Mario Puskarich and Colin Markison. Current Volunteer Assistant

SIZE MATTERS
The Catamounts as a team have an average height of 6'1.6" which makes them the tallest team in college hockey. Boston University (6'0.9") is the only other team in Hockey East in the top-10. Vermont is also fourth in the NCAA in average weight at 191.0 pounds.
VERMONT CONNECTION SHINES AT 2022 WORLD JUNIORS
Joel Määttä became the first Catamount in program history to medal at the highest level of the World Juniors in August. He earned a silver medal with Finland, with three goals and an assist in seven games. Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft earned a bronze medal as an assistant coach with Sweden.
Ralfs Bergmanis (Latvia) and Luca Münzenberger (Germany) also competed at the 2022 IIHF World Juniors. Assistant Coach
Scott Moser served in the same role for Slovakia as well.
RECORD NUMBER OF CATAMOUNTS ATTEND NHL ROOKIE CAMPS
Vermont had a program-record 11 student-athletes (committed or enrolled) participate at NHL Development Camps this summer. Joel Määttä who was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the seventh round of the 2022 NHL Draft attended Oilers camp with his UVM teammate Luca Münzenberger. Locally

Gabe Carriere were invitees to the Boston Bruins development camp.
DRAFT CAPITAL
The Catamounts enter the new season with six NHL Draft picks on the roster.

GUT HOCKEY GOES INTERNATIONAL
The Vermont roster is comprised of student-athletes from nine different countries. There is at least one player from Finland, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Germany, Kazakhstan, Canada and the United States.
TRANSFORMATIONAL FACILITIES UPGRADE
This season is the Catamounts first year in their brand-new facilities in Gutterson Fieldhouse. Vermont will be using a newly built theater style video room, locker room and lounge and Athletic Medicine space this fall. UVM Athletics paired with AMI Graphics to complete the spaces.
