"Obviously, this is a great honor for our program and I am so happy for our players and staff to have this recognition," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "It's been a long process to build up our program - our culture and our on-ice play - and so many have contributed to it over the course of the past 10 years since I have been at UVM. This is a nice moment, but we want to continue getting better and finish this season strong."
Vermont made waves last Friday as they ended then top-ranked Northeastern's 13-game winning streak with a 2-1 win at Matthews Arena.
Bella Parento scored the game-winning goal for the Catamounts on the power play in the third period and
Jessie McPherson made 35 saves including a diving stop in the last minute that was the number two play on ESPN's SportsCenter Friday night. On Sunday afternoon, the Catamounts kept rolling defeating UNH 4-2 behind two third period power play goals from
Theresa Schafzahl and
Maude Poulin-Labelle. That duo shares the lead in Hockey East scoring this season with 27 points apiece.
The Catamounts will travel to Maine for the first time since December 2019 for a two-game Hockey East series this weekend. The teams will faceoff at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 4 and then on Saturday they will close out the season series at 2 p.m. Both games will air for free on CollegeSportsLive.
