BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The University of Vermont field hockey team placed 16 student-athletes on the 2021 NFHCA Division I National Academic team, it was announced earlier this week. It is the fourth straight year the Catamounts have had at least 15 student-athletes earn the distinction.

Scholars of Distinction
The Division I National Academic Squad program honors student-athlete who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2021-22 academic year.
This year, over 1,300 student-athletes from more than 80 Division 1 schools earn recognition.
Vermont is one of four America East teams to place at least 16 on the squad. Cal led the way with 24 selections and Monmouth placed 21 on the team. Maine matched the Catamounts with 16 selections.
Lydia Maitland and
Jamie Borthwick also received Scholar of Distinction status which recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the academic year.
Additionally, four Catamounts (
Maddie Bucci,
Sierra Espeland,
Clodagh Ferry and Maitland) received NFHCA Academic Squad recognition for four consecutive years.
