COACH'S QUOTE
"Just being on our home field after being on the road so much lately was a nice treat," head coach
Chris Feifs said. "It's a one game season, every game from here on out. Everybody is going to give us their best shot and when we play our best we can compete with anyone. I think today we showed flashes of that."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamount offense got off to a strong start jumping out to a 5-0 lead through about 17 minutes of game action. Jonas Hunter scored twice in that run.
- After NJIT got its first goal of the contest at the 11:58 mark of the second quarter, UVM went on to score nine straight goals spanning the next 30 minutes to take a commanding 14-1 lead.
- Those nine goals were scored by eight different Catamounts led by two from Michael McCormack. Also in the mix was James Basile who picked up his first two points of the season with a goal and an assist.
- Vermont's defense was solid all game long causing 15 of the 23 NJIT turnovers including three alone from LSM Nick Alviti.
- Ryan Cornell, George Egan and Matt Shaffer all saw action for Vermont in cage and collectively stopped nine of the 12 shots on cage.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Vermont's ten goal scorers is the most since 11 Cats scored in a win over Quinnipiac back on Feb. 23, 2019.
- Ryan Cornell stopped eight-of-nine shots he faced and now has given up just two goals in two career games against the Highlanders while stopping 18 of 20 shots (90%).
- Vermont's faceoff unit went a combined 14-for-21 including a solid 3-of-3 for Tim Norton.
WHO'S NEXT
The Cats will play at home for the second straight week next Saturday when Canisius comes to town for the final non-conference game of the season. All the action gets underway at noon on AmericaEast.TV.
