COACH'S QUOTE
"We talked pregame about treating this like a league game and we knew we would have to put together a solid effort to get a win," head coach
Chris Feifs said. "We've been putting a lot of pressure on ourselves to execute every single day. We know UMBC is up next and they are a really good team so it's back to the drawing board on Monday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts once again got off to a hot start outscoring the Golden Griffins 4-0 through the first 15 minutes of action.
- Colin Kelly got Canisius on the board with a blast from the top of the key at the 6:44 mark of the second but two quick-stick goals from Closterman stretched UVM's lead to 7-1 with 4:26 remaining in the half.
- Nick Alviti scored two of Vermont's six third quarter goals while Tommy Burke went six-for-seven at the faceoff X and the Cats led 13-3 heading to the fourth.
- The tandem of Gavin Bergeron and Tim Norton went six-for-six on faceoffs in the fourth and two more Cats scored their first career goals.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Tommy Burke went 17-for-20 at the X (85%) to go along with four ground balls. That is the highest win percentage of his career when attempting at least 20 faceoffs.
- Ryan Cornell stopped seven of the ten shots he faced and led the way with five ground balls.
- Closterman finished the day with three goals and two assists to pace seven different Catamounts with multiple points. It's the second straight week UVM has had at least seven players with multi-point games.
