Swimming and Diving Travels to New Jersey for NJIT Invitational Friday

SWIMMING AND DIVING NOTEBOOK
The Catamounts (1-0) will return to action Friday and Saturday as they travel to New Jersey for the two-day NJIT Invitational. Action kicks off Friday night at 5 p.m. The schedule for Saturday is slated to start at 10 a.m. with session II and then session III is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. All the events on Saturday will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

EARLY AMERICA EAST HONORS
Tannah Proudfoot earned her first 2023 America East weekly award when she was named Female Diver of the Week (Oct. 9). Proudfoot, a first year from Johannesburg, South Africa, earned her first ever America East weekly honor after claiming first in the one-meter dive and three-meter dive in her first collegiate competition. In the three-meter dive she finished with a score 259.50 which was 34 more points than the next closest diver. In the one-meter dive she dominated finishing with a score of 250.65 with the next closest diver coming in at 198.15.

EARLY SEASON DOMINANCE
The Catamounts began their season with an emphatic 159-95 victory over Merrimack at home on Saturday, October 7th. In that meet, Vermont had three different swimmers earn at least two individual victories. Hally Laney earned first in the 200 fly (2:07.69) and the 200 IM (2:12.03), Jackie House finished first in the 100 free (52.81) and the 200 free (1:55.42) while along with Laney they earned first in the 200 medley with a time of 1:49.35. Emily Rocco earned two victories finishing first in the 1000 free (10:53.46) and the 500 free (5:19.49). Vermont also saw first years Havana Layton and Jessica Drozdowski earn their first collegiate victories.  

REPLICATING SUCCESS
The Catamounts look to build off of last season's success when Vermont earned three individual victories and swept the 200 medley and 400 free relay to finish the NJIT Invitational with 1348 points, earning first place. UMBC finished in second with 887 points while St. Francis finished third with 738.
 
MEET OUTLOOK
The NJIT Invitational begins Friday night at 5 p.m. beginning with the 200 medley relay followed by the 500 freestyle. After that, the teams will compete in the 200 IM and 50 freestyle before finishing the first night with the 200 freestyle relay. Saturday will begin with the first session starting at 10 a.m. with the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle. The rest of the first session will be completed with the 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and then 400 medley relay. The second session of Saturday will begin at 1:30 p.m. starting with the 200 backstroke and 100 freestyle. Following that, the teams will compete in the 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly before finishing the invitational with the 400 freestyle.

The NJIT Wellness and Events Center Natatorium opens up for spectators beginning 45 minutes prior to the first race. Ticket Prices (CASH ONLY) as well as parking information is listed below:

UPCOMING
Following this weekend's NJIT Invitational the Catamounts will return home for their first America East conference meet against New Hampshire on Saturday, October 21. The start time for that meet is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on AmericaEast.TV.
 
HOME MEETS
The Catamounts will have four more meets at Forbush Natatorium during the 2023-24 campaign. Vermont's next meet at home will be their first America East conference matchup with New Hampshire on Saturday, October 21 at 12 p.m. That meet will be broadcast live on AmericaEast.TV. Following that, the Catamounts will return to Forbush Natatorium on back-to-back weekends when they face UMass on Saturday, December 2 and UConn on Saturday, December 9. Both of those meets are scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on AmericaEast.TV. Vermont's final home meet of the season will be their annual Senior Day presented by MVP Health Advantage against Siena on Sunday, January 14. That meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
