HERRIMAN, UTAH –
Brock Haley tied the game with 30 seconds remaining in regulation and then scored the game-winner in overtime as the Vermont men's lacrosse team defeated Utah, 14-13, Saturday afternoon.
Vermont improves to 2-1 on the season while Utah falls to 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- David Closterman and Jonas Hunter scored the game's first two goals to give the Cats an early lead.
- After a Derek Marsilio tally to make it 6-2 Cats, Utah rattled off two straight spanning the end of the second into the third to trim the lead to 6-4.
- Marsilio and James Basile quickly restored the four-goal cushion with another pair of goals four seconds apart in the third.
- The Utes went on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 9-9 with 10 minutes to play.
- UVM responded with three straight highlighted by Hayden Fruhling's first-career goal to make it 12-9 with 8:41 left.
- Utah once again scored four straight to grab a 13-12 lead.
- Brock Haley – held off the scoreboard for the first 59:33 of the contest – buried a step-down from the left wing to tie the game at 13 with 27 seconds left.
- In overtime, Matt Shaffer (11 saves) made a save on a wrap-around attempt by Ryan Stines which set the stage for Haley.
- Shaffer found Nick Alviti with an outlet pass and the LSM motored upfield to find a wide-open Haley who buried his chance with the mountains in the distance.

- Tommy Burke went 25-for-31 (80.6%) at the faceoff X with 14 ground balls. Today was his eight game with 20+ faceoff wins and the 25 wins is a career high.
- Burke's 584 career faceoff wins are the 6th most among active players in the country.
- Closterman had a five-goal, one-assist outing and now has 168 career points – the most of any active Catamount.
- This was Vermont's first overtime game since a double-overtime victory over UMBC in 2019. UVM is 5-1 in overtime under Chris Feifs.
