LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – On the first day of Nordic competition at the 2023 NCAA Skiing Championships
Haley Brewster and
Jacob Nystedt were the Catamounts top-finishers with both earning top-15 placement from Mt. Van Hoevenberg Thursday. After the second day of competition UVM sits in eighth place with 121 points. Colorado continues to lead with 279.5 points, they hold a 16.5-point lead over the defending champion Utah Utes at the halfway point.

Nystedt placed 11th overall for the Catamounts in the 10k Freestyle with a time of 24:06.4. He was just 9.9 seconds away from earning All-America honors for the third time in his career. Alaska Fairbanks Joe Davies won the national title with a time of 22:33.2, clearing the field by a full 25 seconds.
Finn Sweet earned nine team points for Vermont placing 22nd overall with a time of 24:34.0.
Greg Burt placed 31st overall with a time of 25:05.3.
Brewster placed 13th for Vermont in the 5k Freestyle with a time of 13:33.1. She was Vermont's top finisher in seven of the eight freestyle races she competed in this season. Utah's Novie McCabe won the second national title of her career with a time of 12:46.3.
Waverly Gebhardt placed 24th for the Catamounts in a time of 14:01.4, while
Annie McColgan was 37th in a time of 14:34.5.
The alpine portion of the Championships will wrap up tomorrow with the men's and women's slalom from Whiteface Mountain. Vermont's
Mathias Tefre will look to become the second male in NCAA history to win three straight national titles in the discipline. The action will be streamed live on NCAA.com starting at 9 a.m. at
