The Vermont men's lacrosse team wraps up a two-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when UMass Lowell visits Virtue Field.

LAST TIME OUT
The Catamounts won their fifth straight game and clinched an America East tournament berth with a 13-12 victory over Bryant. Vermont moved into sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Tristan Whitaker scored a career-high five goals to lead the Vermont offense while
Matt Shaffer made 11 saves in his sixth win of the season.
David Closterman scored a goal and added three assists while
Jackson Canfield caused a season-high three turnovers.
WHITAKER HONORED
For the first time this season first-year midfielder
Tristan Whitaker was named America East Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Whitaker has multiple-goals in back-to-back games and ranks second on the team during league play with nine goals and eight assists.
HE'S THE CLOSTERMAN
David Closterman eclipsed the 30-point mark last weekend with four points against Bryant and has reached the mark in every season of his career apart from the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season. Closterman enters the weekend with 191 career points which ranks fourth all-time at UVM. He is one of only three players in program history with 100 career goals and 80 career assists.
FINDING THE GROOVE
The UVM defense has been stout in league play giving up a league-low 46 goals through the first five conference games. Vermont also leads the league in caused turnovers and ranks second in man-down percentage during league play.
ROOKIES ROLLING
The first-year trio of
Carson Boyle,
Charles Huntley and
Tristan Whitaker have hit their stride during league play. Whitaker leads the group with 17 points (9G, 8A) through five games while Boyle has 15 (14G, 1A) and Huntley nine (5G, 4A).
CATS VS. AMERICA EAST
The Cats are 18-2 in their last 20 regular season conference games including perfect 6-0 last year and a 5-0 start this season.
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
UMass Lowell – led by first-year head coach and UVM alum Drew Kelleher '09 – come into the weekend with an 0-11 record and 0-5 mark in league play. The River Hawks built an early lead against Holy Cross before dropping a 13-9 decision on Tuesday. Riley Lawhorn (20G, 2A) and Nick Harvath (10G, 11A) lead the UMass Lowell offense. Lawhorn has ten goals in league play. Luek Renaud has started every game in cage for the River Hawks and enters the weekend with a .465 save percentage and a 17.55 goals against average. Devin German takes a majority of faceoffs and has a .395 win percentage heading into Saturday's matchup.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Saturday will be 9
th all-time meeting between UMass Lowell and UVM with Catamounts owning a 7-1 lead in the series. UVM scored a 23-9 victory last season in Lowell and has won three straight meetings by an average of 13 goals.
