HANOVER, NH. – Vermont crushed the first day of the Dartmouth Carnival Friday picking up wins from
Declan McCormack and
Cydnie Timmermann in the GS and
Benon Brattebo and
Marielle Ackermann in the Freestyle Sprints. Overall the Catamounts earned six podiums on the day. After their big opening day performance, the Catamounts sit in first place with 484 points, 118 ahead of the host Big Green.

Day 1 Results
After winning the NCAA GS qualifier yesterday McCormack repeated his performance on Friday. He had the fastest first run in the field at 53.93 and his combined run time of 1:47.64 was good for a .05 win over St. Michael's Simen Strand.
Magnus Berge Styren earned his second top-five of the season coming in fifth with a two-run time of 1:48.08.
Cole Palchak earned a season-best 12th place finish with a combined run time of 1:48.91.
Timmermann earned her first career EISA win with a two-run time of 1:52.00. It was her second podium of the season and third in her career. Her teammate
Justine Clément was second on the day finishing just .04 seconds later.
Ella Renzoni picked up her first top-five finish of the season, placing fourth overall with a combined run time of 1:52.51.
At the Oak Hill Outdoor Center the Vermont women had an excellent afternoon. Ackermann,
Camille Bolduc and
Annie McColgan won their quarterfinal heats.
Libby Tuttle also joined the group in the semifinal. All four of them competed in the same semifinal heat with Ackermann winning in 3:00.06 followed by Tuttle (3:00.56). Bolduc also advanced to the final in one of the Lucky Loser slots. In the final Ackermann claimed her first-ever EISA title with a mark of 3:02.16 in the final. Tuttle earned her third top-five finish of the season placing third in the final with a time of 3:04.25.
In the sprints first years Brattebo and
Owen Young were the only two male Catamounts to advance to the semifinal. Young advanced second in his heat with a time of 2:32.36 while Brattebo advanced to the final in one of the Lucky Loser slots. In the final Brattebo earned his first career EISA win completing the circuit in 2:33.97. He finished 1.02 seconds ahead of Williams' Keelan Durham. Young picked up a career-best fourth place finish with a time of 2:36.68 in the final.
Day two of the Dartmouth Carnival is set for Saturday morning. The men's and women's slalom action will begin at 9 a.m. from the Dartmouth Skiway. The Nordic squads will compete in a 15k Classic Saturday with the men starting at 10 a.m. followed by the women at noon.
