SKIING NOTEBOOK
Vermont Nordic and Alpine Ski will return to action for the second carnival of the season, competing in the St. Lawrence Carnival that will span three days starting on Thursday (Jan. 16) and going until Saturday (Jan. 18). The Catamounts will be skiing at the St. Lawrence Carnival for the first time since 2023, when SLU hosted the NCAA East Regionals.

The Nordic races will take place at Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y. while the Alpine squad will be competing on Whiteface Mt. in Wilmington, N.Y.

Tomorrow, only the Alpine team will be skiing, competing in the men's and women's GS race. On Friday, both Nordic and Alpine will compete, seeing Nordic Ski in a men's and women's 20k Freestyle mass start while Alpine wraps up their portion of the carnival with the Slalom race. On Saturday, Nordic will conclude the carnival taking part in a 7.5k Classic Interval start.

MOST RECENTLY
Vermont most recently finished second in the Bates Carnival with 781.5 total points, the first EISA Carnival of the season, seeing one skier from each men's and women's Nordic/Alpine team finish in a podium position. On the Nordic squad, during day one, first year skiers
Fin Bailey and
Kristin Maltun Helland each placed second in the Sprints, securing their first collegiate podium finishes in their UVM career. During day two, the Alpine squad shined, seeing Justine Clément win her slalom race outright, while
Magnus Berge Styren finished second. Overall, Vermont had 17 total skiers finish at least top-20 or better in their respective races.

LAST TIME AT SLU CARNIVAL
The Catamounts last St. Lawrence Carnival participation was in February 2023, which was also the NCAA East Regionals, seeing UVM win its fourth consecutive EISA Championship. Throughout the two-day carnival Vermont produced 12 total podium finishes.

On day one of the 2023 St. Lawrence Carnival and EISA Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y., Vermont's Joachim Jagge Lindstol claimed his third giant slalom win of the season, securing a narrow victory by 0.01 seconds, while Mathias Tefre and
Declan McCormack also earned podium finishes for the Catamounts. In the women's GS, Justine Clément took second, and Cydnie Timmerman added key points with a 14th-place finish. Vermont's cross-country skiers also had strong performances, with
Haley Brewster placing second in the 5k freestyle and Jacob Nystedt finishing second in the men's 10k freestyle. Despite Dartmouth's strong showing, Vermont held a slim lead in the overall standings with 466 points, just one point ahead of Dartmouth.

On day two, the Vermont ski team dominated, securing seven podium finishes and earning the most team points in all four races to clinch their fourth consecutive EISA Championship with 970 points, 79 ahead of Dartmouth. Justine Clément won the women's slalom with a time of 1:53.19, while Caroline Jones and
Moa Clementson finished third and fourth, respectively. Mathias Tefre triumphed in the men's slalom, claiming his fifth win of the season with a time of 1:46.55. In Nordic action,
Haley Brewster and
Annie McColgan finished second and third in the women's 20k Classic, with Jacob Nystedt earning third in the men's 20k Classic, his eighth podium of the year.

Bill Reichelt the Catamounts have finished in the NCAA top-three seven times. Vermont now has 6 NCAA team championships, 73 individual national champions, 419 All-American citations and 40 EISA Championships in program history.
