LAKE PLACID/WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Day two of the 2025 St. Lawrence Carnival saw Vermont Ski jump from fifth place to being tied for second place after impressive showings from both Nordic and Alpine squads, finishing the day with 581 total points, tied with Middlebury for second place. Dartmouth currently sits alone in first place with 694.5 total points.

Day 2 Results
Both men's and women's Nordic competed in their first event of the St. Lawrence carnival on Friday from Lake Placid on Mount Van Hoevenberg, racing in a 20K Freestyle mass start. Women's nordic went first, seeing first year skier
Kristin Maltun Helland secure her second podium of the season, finishing third in the 20k mass start, racing to a time of 54:33.70.
Annie McColgan finished one position below Helland, finishing in fourth with a time of 54:42.60, her first top five finish on the season. On the men's side,
Petter Bakken led the way for the Catamounts finishing in fourth place with a time of 47:19.30, his highest placing on the season thus far.
Finn Sweet rounded out the top 10, coming in ninth place with a time of 48:35.70, his first top 10 finish on the campaign.
Luke Rizio added critical points for the Catamounts with a top 15 finish, racing for a time of 48:53.10, good for 15th place. Overall, nordic women earned the second most points during their day one event while the men earned the third most points on the day.
On the slopes, Alpine completed their portion of the St. Lawrence Carnival in Wilmington, NY on Whiteface Mtn, competing in the slalom race. UVM women's alpine notched the most points in the slalom, seeing
Cydnie Timmermann and
Justine Clément each earn a podium finish. Clement secured her second podium finish of the season, racing to third place with a two-run time of 1:35.83 while Timmermann made her first podium appearance of the season, finishing in second place with a two-run time of 1:35.66.
Hanna Larsson Nathhorst finished in 11th, her third straight top 12 placing, racing to a time of 1:38.36.
For men's alpine,
Mackenzie Wood secured his first podium finish of the year, placing second during the slalom race, earning the fastest first run out of every skier, 47.61, in total racing to a two-run time of 1:33.74, just .04 seconds away from Middlebury's Bradshaw Underhill who took first place with a two-run time of 1:33.70.
Magnus Berge Styren recorded his third top 10 finish on the season, finishing in ninth place with a two-run time of 1:34.40. Cole Palchal added crucial points for Vermont, finishing with the fastest second run time out of every skier, 44.74, boosting him up 12 positions on the day. Overall Palchal finished in 17th, his best finish on the year thus far.
The St. Lawrence Carnival concludes tomorrow, seeing the Nordic portion wrap up their side of the carnival when the men and women compete in a 7.5K Classic interval start. Women will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the men at 12:30 p.m. All the action will be taking place in Lake Placid, NY from Mount Van Hoevenberg.
