LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Finn Sweet and
Petter Bakken each claimed a podium spot on the final day of the St. Lawrence Carnival as Vermont saw the Nordic squad conclude day three of the carnival from Lake Placid, NY from Mt. Van Hoevenberg competing in the 7.5K Classic interval start. Vermont claimed second place in the carnival, their second straight EISA carnival this season claiming second place, finishing with 798 total points, 133.5 behind the Big Green.

Final St. Lawrence Carnival Results
After seeing Vermont jump from fifth place to second place yesterday during day two of the St. Lawrence Carnival with impressive showings from both women's alpine and Nordic ski, the Catamounts were back at it today with all eyes on the Nordic side of the carnival, completing their portion of the carnival with a 7.5K Classic interval start.
On the men's Nordic side, Vermont secured the most points on the day with impressive showings from Sweet and Bakken, finishing in second and third place individually. Sweet claimed his first podium of the season, earning a season best finish of second place after racing to a time of 19:43.5. Bakken also secured his first podium finish of the season, racing to third place with a time of 19:43.8. Dartmouth's Luke Allan claimed first place with a time of 19:39.2.
Benon Brattebo produced quality points for Vermont, claiming a top 10 finish for the second time this season, skiing to eighth place with a time of 20:27.8.
Luke Rizio (16th) and
Aidan Burt (17th) each finished in the top 20.
For women's Nordic,
Annie McColgan led the way for Vermont, securing a Catamount best seventh place finish, her third straight top 10 placement, skiing to a time of 22:49.1.
Greta Kilburn earned her best finish of the season, racing to the 14th spot with a time of 23:24.2, her first top 15 placement on the season.
Molly Moening secured more points for Vermont, finishing in 18th place, her best placement on the season to this point.
Overall, throughout the three-day carnival, six different Catamounts claimed a podium spot on the way to their second straight second place finish as a whole.

Vermont will get a week off before they gear up for the Saint Michael's Carnival taking place here in the state of Vermont, starting on Friday (Jan. 31) and ending after competition on Saturday (Feb. 1). Nordic will be skiing in Huntington, Vt. From Sleepy Hollow while Alpine will be on the slopes in Jeffersonville, Vt. From Smuggler's Notch. On Friday, Nordic will be competing in a 10km Skate (individual start) while Alpine will start with the GS race. On Saturday, Nordic concludes their portion of the carnival with a 3 x 5km Relay Classic while Alpine finishes with the slalom race. Start times will be posted on UVMAthletics.com when available.
