WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Sara Stiel led the way for the Vermont alpine squad during day one of alpine's portion at the St. Lawrence Carnival, earning a season best fourth place finish racing the giant slalom on Thursday from Whiteface Mtn., just fifteen hundredths of a second away from a spot on the podium. Overall, the Catamounts concluded the day in second place with 625 total points. Dartmouth regained the carnival lead, ending the day with 646 total points. New Hampshire rounds out the top three with 574.5 total points.

St. Lawrence Carnival (Alpine) Day One Results
The women kicked off the day racing the giant slalom first, highlighted by Stiel earning a team-best finish placing fourth with a two-run time of 2:12.61. Stiel's two-run time in the GS also marks a season-best finish.
Cydnie Timmermann raced to 13th place with a two-run time of 2:14.25 earning 27 crucial EISA points.
Margherita Sala finished her first race as a Catamount, placing 34th with a two-run time of 2:17.38 earning.
On the men's side of the slopes,
Oskar Gillberg secured a season best finish of 15th place skiing a two-run time of 2:08.55.
Felix Lindenmayer and
Gray Flanagan were close behind, seeing Lindenmayer place 18th with a two-run time of 2:09.49 and Flanagan follow in 19th with a two-run time of 2:09.66.
Sebastian Weiss raced his fasted two-run time during the GS this season, skiing a two-run time of 2:09.91, placing him in 22nd on the day.
The alpine team returns to the slopes tomorrow (Jan. 23), wrapping up the St. Lawerence carnival competing in the slalom from Whiteface Mtn. in Wilmington, N.Y. First run is estimated to begin between 9-9:30 a.m. with times subject to change. The Nordic team begins their portion of the Colby Carnival at Sugarloaf in Kingfield, ME tomorrow (Jan. 23). The men nordic skiers will begin the day racing a 20k Mass Start Skate race at 10 a.m. followed by the women racing their 20k Mass Start Skate race at 12 p.m. with times subject to change.
