WATERVILLE, M.E. – On Friday afternoon, the UVM Nordic team kicked off their portion of the Colby Carnival from Quarry Road. The Catamounts competed in the first 20k FR Mass start race of the season with both the men's and women's team posting impressive performances and earning the most points over all schools. The men's team swept the podium for the second week in a row, seeing
Owen Young win his second straight race outright, followed by
Tabor Greenberg in second and
Petter Bakken close behind in third. Vermont's
Haley Brewster also won the 20k FR Mass start outright for the women, her first win of the year. Following day one of Nordic's portion of the Colby Carnival, Vermont remains in third place overall with 361.5 total points, just three points away from New Hampshire sitting in second with 364.5 total points. Dartmouth owns the carnival lead with 658 total points.

Day One Colby Carnival Results (Nordic)
UVM men's Nordic concluded day one with the most points out of any school (141) and saw six out of the seven Vermont skiers place within the top 20 finishers, including all three podium placements. Young placed first with a run time of 55:23.2, his second win of the season. Young was followed by Greenberg and Bakken in second and third with 55:24.4 and 55:41.4, respectively. Greenberg continues to shine, making this his third consecutive podium finish this season. Bakken's third place finish marks his first podium appearance on the campaign. The three men earned 50, 47, and 44 crucial EISA points towards carnival standings for the Catamounts.
The women Nordic racers also had a strong day, finishing with the most points of all competing teams (111). All eight skiers placed within the top 25 of finishers. Brewster led the pack, placing first with a run time of 1:03:08.3. Brewster also collected 50 EISA points. First year,
Lena Poduska placed eighth with a run time of 1:04:48.4, notching her first top ten finish as a Catamount and 33 EISA points.
Kristin Maltun Helland finished 12th with a run time of 1:05:46.2 and 28 EISA points.

The Catamounts will be back in action tomorrow for Day Two of the Colby Carnival (Jan. 24) from Quarry Road. Saturday's event will be the 7.5k CL Int. race. The men will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the women at 1 p.m. All time are subject to change.
