PENALTY KILL OFF TO TREMENDOUS START
Vermont and Omaha are the only two programs in the NCAA to not give up a power play goal this season. Both clubs are 11 for 11, UVM in five games, Omaha in four. A strong PK is nothing new under Head Coach
Steve Wiedler, during the 2024-25 campaign UVM allowed only two power play goals against in their first 12 games.
It is the first time Vermont hasn't allowed a power play goal against in its first five games since the 2014-15 campaign. The Catamounts were 17 for 17 to start that season through their first six games.
OSTER HAVING AN OCTOBER TO REMEMBER
Sophomore goaltender
Jacob Oster made his collegiate debut Oct. 16 in a 2-1 win over No. 14 Boston University. He stopped 56 of the 59 shots he faced that weekend in two games with the Terriers earning Hockey East Player of the Week honors on Oct. 19. Oster has made four straight starts for Vermont; he currently has a 1.48 GAA and .949. save percentage. His GAA is tied for 16th in the NCAA and save percentage is 15th.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats were selected ninth in the 2026-27 Hockey East Preseason Poll. After splitting a weekend series with No. 4 Michigan State last weekend at the Whittemore Center UNH is receiving votes in the USCHO poll. By vote totals they'd be 24th. UNH topped the Spartans 1-0 on Friday night and fell 2-1 on Saturday.
UNH goaltender Michael Simpson was named Hockey East Player of the Week after the series with MSU. Simpson went 1-1-0 against No. 2 Michigan State, allowing just two goals and making 35 saves for a 1.01 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage. He turned in those numbers against a Spartans team that entered the series averaging 5.33 goals per game. He was also HEA Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week on Oct. 19 after a weekend sweep at Colgate.
Senior forward Nick Ring leads the team in scoring with three goals and five assists for eight points. In six career games against the Catamounts, he has one goal and one assist, both on January 25, 2025 in a 5-2 win. First year forward Émile Guité, an Anaheim Ducks draft pick (5th Rd, 159 Overall), leads the team with four goals this season, including both of their tallies last weekend against MSU.
The Wildcats hold an 86-34-11 advantage in the all-time series against Vermont. UNH is also 38-15-5 all-time at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Last season, the teams split their two-game series at the Whittemore Center. In Coach Wiedler's tenure at Vermont (Head Coach & Assistant) the Catamounts are 7-4-1 against UNH.
