HANCOCK, Vt. / RIPTON, Vt. - On Friday morning, day one of the Middlebury Carnival/EISA Championships/NCAA East Regionals began from Snow Bowl Mtn. and Rikert Outdoor Center. The men's and women's Nordic teams competed in the 7.5k Cl. Int. race, while the Alpine squads competed in the GS. UVM finished second overall with 432 points after the first day of competition. Three UVM skiers placed on the podium with
Gray Flanagan (first) and
Cydnie Timmermann (second) for Alpine and
Haley Brewster (second) for Nordic. Dartmouth currently sits in first place after day one, with 477.5 points.

The Men's Nordic team kicked off day one by placing third in the 7.5k Cl. Int. race with 94.5 points. Vermont's top finisher was
Tabor Greenberg placing seventh with a run time of 21:52.1 and earning 39 EISA points. Ruben Kretschmar placed 13th with a run time of 22:17.5, and 29.5 points. Seconds behind was
Benon Brattebo in 17th, with a run time of 22:18.9 and 26 EISA points for the team.

The Women's Nordic team placed second in the 7.5k Cl. Int. race with 109 points. Brewster continues to be a force for Vermont, placing second with a run-time of 24:25.2 and 47 EISA points, her tenth consecutive podium appearance. The next Catamount finisher was
Greta Kilburn placing 10th with a run time of 25:20.4, earning 33 points.
Lena Poduska placed 13th with a run time of 25:49.4 and 29 EISA points for the team.

On the Alpine slopes, the men's team finished day one in first place with 120 points in the GS. Flanagan placed first with a two-run time of 1:56.70, earning 50 EISA points. This was Flanagan's first career win with the Catamounts.
Oskar Gillberg placed fourth with a two-run time of 1:57.03 and 41 points, his second straight top five finish.
Felix Lindenmayer placed 11th with a two-run time of 1:57.56, contributing 29 EISA points to the team.

The Women's Alpine squad finished third with 108.5 points and three skiers in the top twenty of finishers after day one. Timmerman put up a strong performance, placing second with a two-run time of 2:00.45 and 47 EISA points, her seventh podium appearance of the season. The next Catamount finisher was Linn Liedholm in seventh with a two-run time of 2:01.73, earning 34 EISA points, her best finish of the season thus far.
Kendahl Roufa placed 14th with a two-run time of 2:02.45, and 27.5 points for the team.

The Catamounts will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Middlebury Carnival from Snow Bowl Mtn. and Rikert Outdoor Center. Saturday's events will include the 20k FR Mass start for Nordic, and the Slalom for Alpine. First runs for Alpine will begin at 9 a.m. followed by second runs at 12:45 p.m. For Nordic, the men's 20k mass start will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the women's 20k mass start at 12 p.m. (All times subject to change).
