Women’s Hockey Opens 2026-27 Campaign on Saturday with a Scrimmage Against Concordia

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Vermont women's hockey begins the 2026-27 season on Saturday (Sept. 19) afternoon at 3 p.m. hosting Concordia in a scrimmage from Gutterson Fieldhouse. All the action will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Ryan Zimmerman on the call.

VERMONT OUTLOOK

The Vermont Women's hockey team was selected sixth in the 2026-27 Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving 54 total points in the poll.
Head Coach Jim Plumer has selected four student-athletes to lead the Catamounts during the 2026-27 campaign. Natalie Zarcone and Rose-Marie Brochu will serve as captains for Vermont while Brooke George and Stella Retrum will be Vermont's alternate this season. Zarcone and Brochu served as alternates last season as well.
The Catamounts return a handful of familiar faces including two members of the 2025-26 Hockey East All-Conference Third Team squad, Stella Retrum and Josie Hemp. Retrum finished her first season with the Catamounts with 12 goals, 16 assists and 28 total points, leading Vermont in points. Hemp finished her second season with 7 goals, 8 assists and 15 points as the team's leading defender in goals. Forward Rose-Marie Brochu finished her third season with 7 goals, 18 assists and 25 points, good for second highest points on the team while leading the entire Hockey East in faceoff wins (405). Forward Kaylee Lewis finished her third season with 11 goals, 12 assists and 23 points, career high numbers in every category.
Vermont is 1-1-0 all-time against Concordia. The Catamounts last went head-to-head with the Stingers in 2024. Saturday's matchup will be the third ever meeting between the two programs.
Under Head Coach Jim Plumer the Catamounts are 8-6-1 in exhibitions against Canadian Teams.

SCOUTING THE STINGERS

Concordia enters the weekend with a 1-0 record in their series of scrimmages to open the season. They defeated Carleton 7-2 on Sept. 11.
Concordia faces St. Lawrence at 6pm on Friday (Sept. 18) before trekking to Burlington for the scrimmage against Vermont.
Last season, the stingers posted a 24-2 regular season record, winning the RSEQ championship and landing second to Montreal in the U Sports Championship final to finish with a 30-3 overall record.
