STOWE, Vt. –
Karl Schulz earned his second victory of the season Saturday leading a contingent of five Catamounts on the podium as Vermont claimed the UVM Carnival with a total of 903 points. Vermont finished 28 points ahead of second-place Middlebury.

Schulz won his second straight freestyle title for the Catamounts from the Craftsbury Outdoor Center Saturday. His 10k time of 26:22.8 was 6.2 seconds ahead of Middlebury's Peter Wolter.
Ben Ogden finished in third place with a time of 26:32.7.
Ian Moore was the Catamounts final scorer, placing 22nd with a time of 28:13.9. The Catamounts earned 114 team points on Saturday.
On the women's side
Lina Sutro won her first podium-place of the season finishing third in the 5k Freestyle. She finished in a time of 14:20.3, 13.7 seconds behind Middlebury's Sophia Laukli who won the event.
Margie Freed finished right behind Sutro in fourth place with a time 1.6 seconds slower.
Anna Bizyukova was Vermont's final scorer on the day, placing seventh overall with a mark of 14:29.9. The trio earned 120 team points, a season-high for the women's Nordic squad.
For the first time in his young career
Mathias Tefre was the Catamounts top scorer for the men's alpine squad. He earned his first career podium with a second-place finish in a combined run time of 1:48.9.
Joachim Jagge Lindstol finished .3 seconds slower than his teammate finishing third overall earning his third podium in four career EISA starts.
Spencer Smith was Vermont's final scorer, placing a season-high 11th with a time of 1:51.3.
For the fourth straight race
Marina Vilanova was the top finisher for the women's alpine squad. She placed fourth overall with a combined run time of 1:55.1.
Josefine Selvaag placed seventh with a mark of 1:56.2.
Caroline Jones earned EISA points for the first time in her career with a 16th place finish, although she finished 14th in the GS yesterday. Her combined run time of 1:58.1 earned 25 points for the Catamounts. Jones' teammates
Hannah Hunsaker (1:58.4) and
Rachael DesRochers (1:58.5) finished in 17th and 18th right behind her.
With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to a Vermont charity, bringing the 2020 total to 14 wins totaling $1,400. A special thank you to Vermont Mutual Insurance for their support, protecting Vermonters since 1828.
The EISA circuit continues next weekend at the Colby Carnival on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 with alpine action at Sugarloaf and the Nordic competition at Quarry Road. Friday's races are the giant slalom, the women's 10k classic and the men's 15k classic.
