SKIING NOTEBOOK
The full EISA circuit returns to action tomorrow morning in Maine at the 2023 Bates Carnival, the first hosted by Bates in three years. The alpine competition will be at Sunday River in Newry while the Nordic teams will compete at Black Mountain in Rumford.

This weekend will be the first of several occasions of equal distance racing in the Nordic competition. For the first four Nordic weekends, men and women will race the exact same distances, with only two out of the twelve races being different lengths throughout the season.

OGDEN SHINING ON THE WORLD STAGE
Vermont graduate studentÂ
Ben Ogden completed the FIS Tour de Ski Sunday in Italy placing 13th overall in the grueling seven-event and nine-day competition. His 13th place finish is the best-ever by an American male in the event. Ogden placed in the top-15 in four of the seven events of the competition. His best finish came in the 10k Classic on January 3, he placed sixth in the field with a time of 22:08. He also finished in the top-ten placing ninth in the Sprint Classic with a time of 2:40. Today he closed out the competition placing 24th in the 10k Free with a time of 33:19.0. UVM alumni Scott Patterson (22nd),Â

CATAMOUNTS RETURNING AFTER RUNNER-UP FINISH IN 2022
At the 2022 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted in Utah the Catamounts finished second overall with 511.5 points. It was their second National Runner-Up in the last three seasons.
Ben Ogden became the third Catamount in program history to sweep the Nordic races claiming the national title in the 10k Classic and 20k Freestyle. Vermont received 11 All-America citations in total.

BURT AND SWEET TO COMPETE AT 2023 WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
Men's Nordic skiers
Greg Burt and
Finn Sweet will be competing this weekend for the United States in cross country at the 2023 World University Games hosted in Lake Placid, NY at Whiteface Mountain (the site of the 2023 EISA Championships and the 2023 NCAA Skiing Championships.)
Annie McColgan and
Bjorn Westervelt (biathlon) will head to Lake Placid next week to compete.

LAST TIME AT THE BATES CARNIVAL
The last Bates Carnival was contested February 7-8, 2020. The Catamounts finished second overall with 848 points, two behind Middlebury.
Joachim Jagge Lindstol earned his first career win in the slalom on the first day. On day two
Josefine Selvaag won the giant slalom and
Ben Ogden claimed the 10k Freestyle.

HISTORY OF SUCCESS
The Catamounts second place finish at the NCAAs marked the third time since 2014 UVM has been National Runner-Up. It is the seventh time under Director of SkiingÂ
Bill Reichelt the Catamounts have finished in the top-three. Vermont now has 6 NCAA team championships, 72 individual national champions, 409 All-American citations and 38 EISA Championships in program history.
