HANCOCK, Mass. – Mathias Tefre won his fourth slalom of the 2023 EISA campaign leading Vermont on a very strong alpine day for the Catamounts. UVM earned three podiums Friday and placed a combined seven racers in the top-8 of both genders from Jiminy Peak. After the opening day of competition Vermont sits in first place with 441 points, 46 ahead of Middlebury in second.

Tefre won the day with a combined run time of 1:29.85.
Cole Palchak claimed his second EISA podium of the season with a second-place finish. His first run time of 42.88 was the fastest in the field. Tefre's second run was .24 seconds faster than Palchak and he defeated his teammate by one-hundredth of a second.
Joachim Jagge Lindstol placed fourth overall for UVM with a two-run time of 1:30.19, earning an additional 41 EISA points.
Declan McCormack earned his third top-10 of the season with an eighth-place finish (1:30.98).
In the women's slalom the Catamounts placed three skiers in the top-eight. First year
Cydnie Timmermann earned her first career EISA podium with a two-run time of 1:38.86. Plymouth State's Hanna Larsson Nathhorst won the day with a time of 1:37.64.
Marina Vilanova placed a season-best sixth overall with a combined run time of 1:39.45.
Caroline Jones was the Catamounts final scorer finishing eighth with a two-run time of 1:39.78.
Haley Brewster was UVM's top finisher in the 10k Classic from Prospect Mountain, she placed seventh overall with a time of 37:49.4. Dartmouth's Ava Thurston claimed the event by 1.7 seconds with a time of 36:12.5.
Marielle Ackermann earned her first career top-10 placing tenth in a time of 38:21.9.
Waverly Gebhardt was the Catamounts final scorer finishing 13th in a time of 38:30.9.
Jacob Nystedt was Vermont's top finisher in the men's race placing fourth overall in a time of 31:02.5. Harvard's Rémi Drolet won the event by over 40 seconds with a time of 30:06.9.
Greg Burt was 11th overall in a time of 32:21.3 and
Bjorn Westervelt was their final scorer placing 14th (32:37.9).
The alpine and Nordic teams will close out the Williams Carnival tomorrow. The Nordic teams will compete in a 10k Skate from Prospect Mountain with the men at 10 a.m. and the women at noon. Giant slalom races at Jiminy Peak are slated for Saturday with first run times TBD at this time.
