SKIING NOTEBOOK
After claiming the 2023 EISA Championship in New York the Catamounts are back again in Lake Placid for the 2023 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University from March 8-11. The four-day event will bring alpine racing to Whiteface Mountain and Nordic competition at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. All four days of the competition are free and open to the public. The action will also be streamed live for free at NCAA.com.

CATAMOUNTS RETURNING AFTER RUNNER-UP FINISH IN 2022
At the 2022 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted in Utah the Catamounts finished second overall with 511.5 points. It was their second National Runner-Up in the last three seasons. Vermont received 11 All-America citations in total. Five of the Catamounts All-Americans last season will be in action this week in New York.

TEFRE CHASING HISTORY IN THE SLALOM
Mathias Tefre is the back-to-back NCAA champion in the slalom joining Einar Bohmer '92 (UVM Hall of Famer) and John Skajem (Colorado) as the only males to win two slaloms in a row. With a title on Friday Tefre would match Dartmouth College's Chiharu Igaya who won a record three straight titles from 1955-57. Igaya was a Japanese Olympian who won silver in the slalom at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina.

HISTORY OF SUCCESS
The Catamounts second place finish at the NCAAs marked the third time since 2014 UVM has been National Runner-Up. It was the seventh time under Director of SkiingÂ
Bill Reichelt the Catamounts have finished in the top-three. Vermont now has 6 NCAA team championships, 72 individual national champions, 409 All-American citations and 39 EISA Championships in program history.

CATAMOUNTS SEEKING SEVENTH NATIONAL TITLE
Vermont will be seeking its seventh NCAA title this week in Lake Placid. Vermont (6) and Dartmouth (3) are the only eastern schools to ever claim the crown. 13 of the last 14 champions have been from the west, the lone exception being the Catamounts in 2012.

2023 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM
The Catamounts are one of four teams to qualify a full 12-person roster out of the 148 student-athletes competing this week. Utah, Dartmouth and Colorado are the other three schools.

NORDIC*
Haley Brewster – won two EISA events this season, earned six podiums. Ranked second in freestyle & fourth in classical in EISA.
Waverly Gebhardt – won one EISA event and earned three podiums. Ranked third in classical and seventh in freestyle in EISA.
Annie McColgan – earned one podium and five top-10's in the 2023. Ranked 12th in freestyle and 10th in classical in EISA.

Greg Burt – Earned two top-10 finishes this season. Helped UVM place first in Classic Relay at Harvard Carnival. Ranked 15th in freestyle and 16th in classical in EISA.
Jacob Nystedt – Earned eight podiums and two wins this season. Ranked second in classical and third in freestyle in EISA. Nystedt was EISA's 2023 overall points leader.
Finn Sweet – Earned two podiums and five top-five finishes this year. Ranked fourth in classical and sixth in freestyle in EISA.

ALPINE
Justine Clement – won a GS and slalom at Whiteface Mountain on final week of season. Earned four total podiums. Was ranked fourth in the GS and fifth in the slalom in EISA this year.
Moa Clementson – Earned three podiums this season, all in the slalom. She was ranked third in the EISA in slalom and 22nd in the GS.
Caroline Jones – 2023 EISA Bib Leader in the slalom. She won the season-opening Bates slalom and earned four additional podiums. She was ranked 28th in the GS.

Joachim Jagge Lindstol – earned three wins in the GS and six overall podiums this season. EISA Bib Leader in the GS and fifth overall in the slalom.
Cole Palchak – earned one win, three podiums and six top-10s this season. Ranked second in the slalom and 31st in the GS in EISA.
Mathias Tefre – earned five wins this season and seven podiums. EISA Bib Leader in the Slalom, ranked third in the GS.
*Three-time National Champion Ben Ogden is unable to compete this week in Lake Placid due to a visa issue related to his continued competition on the World Cup circuit.
