Elmer L Nicholson 1939 - Baseball, Basketball, Tennis
Elmer L. Nicholson, a 1975 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was a three-sport performer at Vermont in 1937 who went on to become a member of the UVM Board of Trustees, a successful businessman and active alum.
The past president of CAN Financial Corporation in Chicago, a $3.3 billion holding company of Continental Casualty and Continental Assurance Companies, Nicholson played basketball, and baseball and one year of tennis while at Vermont and was the only three letter recipient in 1937.
Upon graduation, he was presented the Wasson Athletic Prize, given to the top scholar-athlete in the senior class. At UVM, he was also an active member in Delta Psi.
Following graduation, Nicholson remained close to UVM, being an active worker in alumni affairs. He served as the area chairman of the Connecticut Alumni Fund raising effort and was president of the Alumni Association in 1960, while he was active with Connecticut General Life in Hartford, Conn. A recipient of the Alumni Distinguished Service Award, he also served the University as a member of its Board of Trustees from 1962-68.
