Levi H. Brown 1963 - Baseball
One of the finest hitters to play at Vermont in the modern history of UVM baseball, Levi Brown captained the 1962 team that won a then school record 22 games and won the Yankee Conference title. Inducted into the UVM Hall of Fame in 1979, Brown was a key reason the Catamounts reached the championship game of the NCAA New England Regional falling one game away from going to the College World Series in Omaha.
An All-Yankee conference and All-New England pick his senior year, Brown hit .353 that season and soon after graduation inked a contract with the Milwaukee Braves farm system. The centerfielder played minor league ball for several years and was one of the top hitters in 1965 at Amarillo of the Texas League (AA).
At UVM, Brown had a .275 collegiate batting average, which included 15 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs and 53 runs scored. In 1962 he was the recipient of UVM's Charles Stroh RBI-leader trophy.
In the minors, he set a season RBI record for the Western Carolina League in 1963 and was a member of the All-Star team of the New York-Penn League in 1964, hitting .346 for the season before being promoted to the Texas League.
