Sarah Dahl 1991 - Track and Field

A winner of the Sunderland Memorial Trophy for dedication in overcoming a series of injuries, Sarah Dahl, a 2001 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was one of the reasons Vermont was able to to win three consecutive New England Outdoor Track and Field championships in the late 1980s. A four-time All-New England and All-ECAC performer in both indoor and outdoor track and field and a New England champion in the pentathlon indoors, Dahl set the UVM heptathlon record of 4,967 points in 1991 that still stands over 15 years later. When she graduated, she also was the school's record-holder in the 50-meter hurdles indoors and the 100-meter hurdles outdoors.

In February of 1989, Dahl won the New England Championship in the pentathlon with 3,506 points. Her versatility was seemingly unlimited. Not only did she excel in the heptathlon and pentathlon, where athletes must be able to do many different things well, Dahl also was one of the top hurdlers in New England for four years. In her senior year, Dahl qualified for the prestigious Penn Relays in the heptathlon and finished a strong fifth in the national-caliber field.

The Essex Junction, Vermont native, a member of the Dean's List every year at UVM, graduated in 1991 with a degree in biology, and went on to graduate from the UVM College of Medicine in 1995. Since graduating from UVM, Dahl has competed in some regional road races and triathlons, and ran her first marathon in Burlington.
