William G. Looker, 1975 - Football, Track and Field

Bill Looker, a 1987 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was one of the swiftest receivers ever to play at Vermont and a record-setting sprinter on the track team. His cheetah-like quickness would enable this athlete to become one of the very best football players in New England.

A native of Rutland, Vt., Looker along with his Hall of Fame quarterback Bob Bateman were named to the All-New England and All-Yankee Conference first teams in 1974. Despite missing a full season (1973) with an arm injury, Looker still had 81 career receptions for 1,253 yards and six touchdowns. He was also the top punter in the Yankee Conference in the early '70s, averaging 35.9 during his career, including 37.5 yards per kick his senior year. In 1974 - the last year of football at UVM - Looker won All-ECAC weekly honors three times, hauling in 39 passes (good for 661 yards and four touchdowns). During his career, he was selected UVM's Player of the Game four times.

In track, Looker put his speed to work as a member of UVM's record-setting 440-yard sprint relay team in 1974. That spring, he also finished fifth in the 100-yard run (9.8) at the Yankee Conference championships. Looker was also voted the Vermont Collegiate Invitational Indoor Track and Field Championship's Outstanding Athlete in 1974.

At UVM, Looker was active in the Big Brother/Big Sister program and continued his work with the program for two years after graduation.
