Olney W. Hill 1925 - Football, Track and Field

Olney Hill, a 1975 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was considered an outstanding scholar-athlete, playing football and performing in track for the Green and Gold. After graduation, he became the Director of Public Records in Montpelier.

Always fond of the sport of track and field,, Olney Hill gave his services as an official for university and high school track meets from 1945 until his death in 1972. At UVM, he was the captain of the track team in 1925 and was the only Catamount to qualify for the 1925 New England Regional track meet in Boston.

He also was a member of Key and Serpent, the faculty-student council, Phi Delta Theta fraternity, served as President of his class and was elected to Boulder and Gold Key, two academic honorary societies. An electrical engineer major at UVM, he spent many years in government work, including his duties as the Director of Public Records in Montpelier, where he cared for vast piles of governmental documents and records.

Being a "Fellow" of the Society of American Archivists honored him in 1974 with a granite base relief was in the State Office Building in Montpelier, given as a tribute by the Town Clerks and Treasurers with whom he worked. Hill also served on the University's Athletic Council and was a member of the Alumni Council for several years.
