Warren D. Prehmus 1977 - Basketball

An offensive force for UVM's basketball team, Warren Prehmus was also a clutch performer in tight situations. A 1987 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, he is remembered as much for his mental toughness as the fact that he graduated as Vermont's all-time leading scorer in 1977 with 1,402 career points.

Prehmus's trademark was his consistency: he averaged in double-figures all four years with a career average of 14.6 points a game. In his senior season of 1976-77, he fashioned a 17.9-point scoring average, the ninth-best in UVM history. A classic shooter as a 6-2 guard, Prehmus's name is prominent in the UVM record book ranking in virtually every offensive category. He finished his career third in career free-throw percentage (.815), second in single-season free-throw percentage (.880, which was tops in New England in the 1973-74 season), second in career field goals scored (567) and fourth in career assists (259).

In his junior year, Prehmus led Vermont tallying 17 points a game, and established himself as one of New England's top players. His shooting and ball handling skills led the Catamounts to a 15-10 record that year. He also sank a 30-foot jump shot at the buzzer in a thrilling, 86-85 victory over Connecticut that year.

In the spring of his senior year, Prehmus was awarded UVM's Semans Trophy, which goes to a senior athlete in recognition of leadership, loyalty and service to the university. His wife, Pamela (UVM '77), is the daughter of UVM's head athletic trainer and Hall of Fame, the late Roger Bryant, and the couple has has three children, Courtney, Drew, and Sarah.
