Michelle 'Mickey' Lauzon Thompson 1986 - Field Hockey, Softball
An Academic All-American and winner of the 1986 Wasson Athletic Prize, Mickey Lauzon Thompson, inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999, was a two sport star at UVM. Voted Most Valuable Player on the softball team in 1986, Lauzon also captained the field hockey team in 1985. She earned three varsity letters in field hockey and two in softball.
In 1985 she led the softball team in hitting, batting .329 with 28 hits, 5 doubles and 11 RBI. The following season, she hit .231 with a team-high of 22 runs scored. In the fall Thompson was a standout field hockey goalie. In 1985 she started all 15 games in goal recording a goals against average of 1.28 and a save percentage of .861. The UVM career record-holder in goals against average, she allowed 1.42 goals a game during her two-year field hockey career.
Thompson has remained active in field hockey by officiating at the junior high and high school level up to 1993. She played ASA softball at the local, regional, state, and national levels, and also coached at the youth level in Barre. She has also served as a volunteer in the Barre community as a Girl Scout Leader and at the Barre City Schools.
