Jeanne Gaudreau Rainville 1982 - Field Hockey

One of the most talented field hockey players ever to put on a UVM jersey, Jeanne Gaudreau Rainville was one of the all time lead scorers in Vermont. A native of Newport, Vermont, Rainville, a 1994 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was virtually unstoppable for Catamounts from 1978 to 1981.

As a freshman, she scored five goals and added three assists. In 1979, she scored a career-high of 14 goals. Nine goals followed during her junior year, and Rainville finished off her career with 11 goals and six assists as a senior. For her career, she pumped in 39 goals and added 16 assists for 94 points, first all-time at UVM. Her 16 assists ranked third all-time at Vermont. Janice Lange, Rainville's coach at UVM, remembers her star player well.

"Jeanne had an uncanny knack of anticipating where to position herself in the circle to put in a rebound or drive the ball into the open space," she said. " She also had an excellent shot on penalty corners. "Jeanne was always a threat to score," Lange continued. "She most often scored the winning goal when we really needed it."

Lange remembers that a highlight of Jeanne's career was scoring the game-winning goal against North Carolina in the UConn Tournament, which was later televised nationally on ESPN.
