Rachael Bondy 1992 - Soccer

A three-time Academic All-American and a Second-Team All-American as a senior, Rachael Bondy was one of the top players on some of the the school's best women's soccer teams in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Bondy, inducted into the UVM Hall of Fame in 2002, led the Catamounts in scoring three of her four years, and finished with 33 goals and five assists for 71 points. Her 33 goals were the second-best all-time and her 71 points ranked third when she graduated. In addition her 11 goals in 1988, her freshman year, were the second-most in a single season at UVM, and her 25 points that year are second all-time.

After her senior year, Bondy was named to the all-conference first team and was named a second-team NSCAA/Met Life All-American, only the third Catamount ever to be named an All-American. Others honored that year included Olympians Julie Foudy of Stanford, Tiffeny Milbrett of Portland, and Kristine Lilly and Tisha Venturini of North Carolina.

As a sophomore, Bondy helped lead the Catamounts to the 1989 ECAC Championship, scoring the game-winner in a 1-0 win over top-seeded Rutgers in the championship game. Vermont was 11-6-1 that season, and during the four years Bondy played, the team posted a record of 39-21-5.

In addition to her national honors, Bondy was a two-time All-ECAC selection, a two-time All-New England honoree, and the MVP of the New England senior all-star game in 1991. She was also named the Hanes NCAA Woman Athlete of the Year in Vermont in 1992. An outstanding student and captain of the team in 1991, Bondy was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, the UVM freshman honor society, and was the America East (then named the North Atlantic Conference) Scholar-Athlete for women's soccer in 1991-92.
